Rejoice | Reflections on Vacation

Rejoice | Reflections on Vacation June 20, 2024

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances…

1 Thessalonians 5.16-18

I’ve been waiting for a block of time to sit down and write. Perhaps that block of time won’t come this week. I may have to rely on moments.

I really want to write a praise, maybe even something in an ancient poetic genre. However, with the lack of time, my higher levels of creativity are not really in effect.

I have been on vacation with my youngest son since June 4th. I have a lot to be grateful for.

Rejoice…
pray…
give thanks…

All 3 injunctions are in the imperative sense. In other words, they’re commands, not merely suggestions.

So as I ride along right now, taking my son back to his home, I’m going to rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

my son’s song of the trip

We have had a tremendous time with family. We have had quite a few adventures. He has had plenty of quality time with his cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, and coattail relatives.

We have enjoyed 3 services at my church. He has made a couple of new friends, guys he’ll look forward to seeing again.

He enjoyed the kids church and gym time. My Pastor took time to meet him, as did some other friends of mine.

We’ve explored. We’ve been in 6 States (Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri). Today we’ll add a 7th State (West Virginia). He’s also explored 3 amusement parks (a trampoline park, Silver Dollar City, and a water park). Then there are the venues, everything from a hotel to a studio to family homes to a condo. This doesn’t include the swimming pools.

He had so much fun with family and church, at one point he went 3 days without the Nintendo Switch with no complaints!

The greatest takeaway for me has been the little conversations that occurred along the way. We have expressed some deep thoughts and some real emotions.

I’m never going to forget it!

I’m not going to stop…
rejoicing…
praying…
and giving thanks…
